The Road to Lasting Peace: Sudan’s Transitional Justice Process

23.06.2021 11:00 - English

Munzoul Assal (University of Khartoum), Kuyang Harriet Logo (University of Juba) and Elin Skaar (CMI) in conversation with Gunnar Sørbø (CMI).

Sudan’s transitional government has a mandate to work for peace and justice. But their task is difficult: Several members of former president Omar al-Bashir’s Islamist-military regime are still key players in Sudanese politics.

Join the webinar on Zoom.

For accountability for past human rights abuses to be achieved, these key players need to be held accountable. Is this likely to happen any time soon? The transitional justice process in neighbouring South Sudan demonstrates possible risks and pitfalls by rushing the process. Are there any lessons learnt from South Sudan that can help Sudan on its way to justice?

Join us for a webinar on transitional justice in Sudan. Panelists are Munzoul Assal, professor at the University of Khartoum, Kuyang Harriet Logo, lawyer and lecturer at the University of Juba, and Elin Skaar, research professor at CMI. The discussion is moderated by Gunnar Sørbø, emeritus at CMI.
