The Red Sea explained: The Houthis, naval forces, and commercial ships

21.02.2024 08:30 - 09:30English

Who are the Houthis? Why do they target merchant ships? How do naval forces protect the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden?

In November, Houthis started attacking and hijacking merchant ships, claiming solidarity with Palestine. The rebel group controls parts of the Yemeni coastline in the Red Sea and has since attacked civilian ships in the area. In response, US and British navies have targeted Houthi military positions in Yemen.

Welcome to breakfast with Pauline Lemaire (CMI), Tor Ivar Strømmen (Sjøkrigsskolen) and Robert Forster (CMI) on the regional consequences and implications for international trade.
