Film seminar: I am the river, the river is me

23.10.2024 16:30 - 17:30English

Sacred rivers, legal persons and sustainability in the twenty-first century.

Lawtransform (Centre on Law & Social Transformation) is inviting you to a free screening of the film I AM THE RIVER, THE RIVER IS ME followed by a seminar on the topic of land rights and indigenous rights in relation to law.

The film tells the story of the Whanganui River in New Zealand. Besides holding a key role in the history and mythology of the indigenous Māori people, the river holds a unique role in the world of nature protection. In a rather unique case in the world, the Whanganui river has been recognized as a legal person.

The seminar will include expert speakers from across the world, discussing the impact of the movie from a legal/political point of view as well as its relation to the Lawtransform research project Pluriland.

The screening takes place at Bergen kino at 14:45 and is part of Bergen International Film Festival (BIFF). The following seminar will be held at Bergen Global at 16:30.

The seminar is free of charge and pizza will be served. The screening requires a valid ticket.

More information on the film can be found here.
