Siri Gloppen, researchers and the group of student volunteers at the Centre on Law & Social Transformation are happy to invite you to our Open Day.
Program:
16:30 – Call for volunteers for the Bergen Exchanges 2017.
We will present the Centre on Law and Social Transformation, our exciting academic and social program for Bergen Exchanges 2017 (21-25. August), and the opportunity to join the team as a volunteer.
17:00 – Film, Reflection and Popcorn. Screening of “13th”, an award winning documentary about racism and labor exploitation in US prisons (trailer).
Nafeesa Tarajee Nichols will share her reflections about the topic. Nafeesa has a Masters in Comparative Literature from the University of Georgia and is a stipendiat with the Institute for Foreign Languages at the UiB. Her current research explores race, gender and space in contemporary South African literature. She has general research interests in race, gender and popular culture. Originally from New York, US , Nafeesa was active in various social justice and creative communities before moving to Norway–speaking out against racial profiling, the persecution of Muslims, sexism and misogyny and xenophobia. Currently she offers as much support as possible to the Black Lives Matter movement via her non-academic writing and the limited power of what is called, “social media activism”.
Snacks and drinks will be served. The event is free and open to all.
