How did advocacy groups mobilise for and against sexual and reproductive rights during and after Brazil's Bolsonaro?

This presentation will explore how Brazil’s anti-gender and anti-sexuality movements evolved to persist after Bolsonaro left office in 2022. Special attention will be given to abortion rights and gender identity policies.
 
The event will be moderated by Kateryna Shumska – MA student, Politics and Governance of Global Challenges, UiB and research assistant at LawTransform.
   
This seminar is part of the RDV seminar series, a collaboration between the Centre for Research on Discretion and Paternalism (DIPA) at the University of Bergen (UiB) and the CMI-UiB Centre on Law and Social Transformation. To present in the interdisciplinary series, we have national and international researchers to talk about their pioneering research on topics regarding law, democracy, and welfare.

Lívia Gonçalves Buzolin is a Law and Development scholar  at FGV Sao Paulo Law School (Brazil).

She holds a PhD  and  master’s degree in Law and Development from FGV,  a bachelor’s degree in Social Communication from the University of the State of São Paulo,and  a bachelor’s degree in Law from the University Presbiteriana Mackenzie.

She works in the field of socio-legal studies, and her research interests include sexuality, gender, race, human rights, legislative processes, and courts.
