What happens when those who speak out about violence and abuse are themselves threatened with legal action?

Still photo from the film

The documentary film “Silenced” follows human rights lawyer Jennifer Robinson’s work and examines how defamation laws and lawsuits can be used to silence women who speak publicly about violence and abuse. Through cases involving women and journalists across different countries, the movie explores the relationship between power, freedom of expression, and access to justice.

The panel will discuss the legal and personal costs of speaking out, how gender shapes encounters with the justice system, and what meaningful protection might look like.

All are welcome!

Watch the film at Bergen International Film Festival 15, 17, 18, 20 October.

This is a collaboration with Bergen International Film Festival (BIFF) and Centre on Law and Social Transformation.
