Brazil’s leadership on climate change: COP 30 and Trump 2.0

27.03.2025 14:15 - 15:30English

Despite the challenging geopolitical climate, particularly due to the second presidency of Trump, Brazil is prepared with contingency plans to invigorate the conference.

Brazil will host COP30 in November, the annual climate negotiations addressing the impacts human activities have on the climate. This year’s COP30 holds special significance as it will be held in the Amazon, the world’s most biodiverse biome.

In light of the criticisms directed at our multilateral global order, Rached will emphasise the importance of strengthening the normative foundations of the global political system as a solution to these challenges.

The event will be moderated by Ianira Vieria – MA student, Politics and Governance of Global Challenges, UiB and research assistant at LawTransform.

This seminar is part of the RDV seminar series, a collaboration between the Centre for Research on Discretion and Paternalism (DIPA) at the University of Bergen (UiB) and the CMI-UiB Centre on Law & Social Transformation. To present in the interdisciplinary series, we have national and international researchers to talk about their pioneering research on topics regarding law, democracy, and welfare.
